Isolation of flavonoids from Indigofera heterantha seeds

The seeds of Indigofera heterantha yielded a flavonoid characterized as quercetin 3-O-α-L-rhamnoside along with known 3,5,7-trihydroxy-6,4 ́-dimethoxyflavone and 3,5,4 ́-trihydroxy-6,7-dimethoxyflavone. The isolated compounds were characterized by using modern spectroscopic techniques such as UV, IR, NMR and mass.

Mutagenic Activity of Indigofera truxillensis and I. suffruticosa Aerial Parts

Indigofera truxillensis and I. suffruticosa, are used as a source of indigo dye and to treat several diseases. The mutagenic activity of the methanolic extracts from aerial parts, glycerolipid, flavonoid and alkaloid fractions of the extract were evaluated by means of Salmonella/microsome assays using TA100, TA98, TA102 and TA97a strains. The methanolic extract of I. truxillensis showed mutagen...

The Fabaceae family (Leguminosae) consists of approximately 650 genera and 18,000 species, it is one of the largest Angiosperm families [1,2]. The genus Indigofera comprises around 700 species that are distributed geographically in tropical regions [3]. I. heterantha locally known as ghoreja or kainthaye (in Pashtho), Jangli methi (in Urdu) and Himalayan Indigo (in English) extensively spread i...

Isolation of a Novel Indigoferamide-A from Seeds of Indigofera Heterantha Wall and its Antibacterial Activity

A new indigoferamide-A (1) along with three new source compounds dotriacontanoic acid (2), quercetin (3) and formononetin “4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pentanone” (4) were isolated from the seeds of Indigofera heterantha Wall. The structures of all these compounds were determined by using mass spectrometry, 1D-and 2D NMR techniques. The structure of the new indigoferamide-A was established by methanoly...

Evaluation of antimicrobial activity of a lectin isolated and purified from Indigofera heterantha

Indigofera heterantha commonly called indigo bush is a member of leguminoseae family found in the Himalayan region of Kashmir. A lectin has been isolated from the seeds of Indigofera heterantha by the purification procedure involving anion exchange chromatography on DEAE-cellulose followed by gel filtration chromatography on Sephadex G 100. Molecular characterization of the lectin was done by g...
